A Passionate Woman at the Royal & Derngate

Liza Goddard comes to Northampton’s Royal & Derngate in Key Mellor’s romantic comedy A Passionate Woman  from 7th-11th March

Stage and screen actress Liza Goddard, well-known for many TV roles including Bergerac, Yes Honestly and The Brothers, plays Betty, a passionate, doting Mum who finds it hard to accept that her son is leaving home to get married.

On the morning of her son’s wedding, Betty retreats to her attic where she relives her long-lost youth and the love affair she had in the 1960s. Surrounded by her memories and ghosts from her past, Betty finds herself torn between a husband she never loved, a son about to leave and the man with whom she shared a passionate affair.

Penned by Kay Mellor, whose credits include In the Club, Band of Gold and The Syndicate, the play is directed by Paul Milton, Creative Director of the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham, where the production opened embarking on a national tour.

Paul Milton says: “A Passionate Woman is a real feel-good play. It has a Shirley Valentine flavour to it: lots of romance, comedy and charm. It’s set in the present day, but has flashbacks to the 1960s. It’s the perfect play for a good night out!”

A Passionate Woman takes to Northampton’s Royal stage from Tuesday 7 to Saturday 11 March, with evening performances at 7.45pm (matinees at 2.30pm Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday)
